SASS is a free and confidential support service for southern Tasmanian people of all ages who have been affected by any form of sexual violence. We also provide Redress Scheme Support Services across Tasmania.

Our mission is to work towards achieving a healthier,  safer community in Tasmania, free of sexual harm.

We provide information and support to professionals, and offer a range of training workshops and education sessions throughout Tasmania.

Sexual Trauma 1st Aid

This essential workshop helps to raises awareness of sexual assault in our community, and offers essential skills for handling disclosures of sexual harm. Topics discussed include Tasmanian consent law, the impacts of trauma and how to respond to disclosures of sexual harm.

Sexual assault survivors who met abuser online are often reluctant to seek support or speak out - local trends

Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS) CEO Jill Maxwell met with the service’s senior counselling staff this week to discuss concerning trends among Tasmanians who have been sexually assaulted by people they have met online. “The issue that we are concerned about at SASS is the number of clients, particularly women, who have met someone online and been sexually assaulted by that person, but are fearful of speaking out or seeking support.”

Minister announces $250,000 increase in SASS funding and commitment to sexual violence action plan

Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence, Jacquie Petrusma, announced an additional $250,000 in funding for Sexual Assault Support Service (SASS) yesterday.
